UNBELIEVABLE COMMITMENT FROM CROYDON COUNCILLORS....
Commitment to keeping up with the latest football scores that is - even if it is in the middle of a public debate on the future of the Fairfield Halls.
Our source in the public gallery tells us that despite their claims of "just checking the score", our local representatives were in for the long haul...thank goodness it wasn't a cup game, how would they cope with extra time and penalties with such a packed agenda!
TWO BEDROOM FLATS AT PREMIUM PRICES AND THE FINANCIAL RISK SITTING WITH THE TAX PAYER....
Croydon Council are backing the property boom to pay the bulk (£18m) of the proposed refurbishment of the Fairfield Halls.
But unlike most property developers, this isn't risking private corporation money - that risk could well be carried by Croydon tax payers.
With no transparency to this new funding model but a big risk to Croydon residents, this article by David Wickens (a former senior Croydon Council official) for Inside Croydon is well worth a read here.

The Fairfield Halls in Croydon is a unique venue serving many community projects as well as staging live theatre productions, great comedy and contemporary and classical music events.
It is a venue that needs saving and nurturing to fulfil it's potential as a great entertainment complex.
However, Croydon Council plans to close the venue for at least two years, depriving the town of a significant cultural resource AND running the real and significant risk that the venue may never reopen. All in the absence of any clear strategy on how the venue will operate in the future (if at all) and whilst placing significant financial risk on the council tax and business rate payers in the Borough
Whilst we whole heartedly welcome the major investment of £30m in the venue's refurbishment SAVE OUR FAIRFIELD is campaigning to overturn Croydon Council's decision, to seek a phased redevelopment that will ensure the venue continues to operate and deliver a great music and arts offering to the town and significantly reduce the financial risk the Council proposal carries.
